Sure, Burnham is clever (what successful standup comedian isn’t?), but he’s also insanely vulgar. Would the parents of my youth teenagers appreciate me showing this movie at a lock-in? Would you watch this movie with your senior pastor?

Philippians 4:8 tells us to set our minds on things that are pure. No matter the talent of the film maker or how genuine the content, I’m surprised that youthministry.com is promoting a post giving such praise to Bo Burnham and this movie. Are his comedy specials now considered praiseworthy content for one who has committed themselves completely to Christ, including what their eyes see? This feels too much like the old saying: “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em”.

My desire is to see our teenagers absolutely rebel against the chaos around them at their schools, not embrace it and laugh at it.
