Hi Brian,

This is Becky here. It sounds like you have created an environment where kids can tell the truth about what’s really going on. All of us are currently working towards our testimony in one way or another. Since it isn’t our job to fix people, we are there to help them bring things into the light. When they’re in the light God can work. What’s more dangerous than teens opening up about what’s really going on is teens hiding what’s really going on. Honesty is a huge value that often seems missing from churches, one of my current goals is to instill honesty in my youth group. I am curious about how to share and coach others to share their current vulnerabilities in a healthy way. what I mean is that I have seen too many “testimonies” where the individual is clearly still dealing with the issue they are sharing about, and there ends up not being any picture of how God is actually working in their life, it is only sharing of a painful situation. This seems to me to do more damage than good when we are working to communicate to students that Christ is redeeming all things and working all situations to be for our good. I guess it seems authenticity with current problems seems at odds with the truth of Christ working in us (or a least the way I have seen it done). Can you respond?
