It was a major desire of my young life-hey, it still is! I believe that we should look at our students has having a unique skill set not try to lump the together to fit some sort of mold we try to create! Jesus said “come as you are” not come when you’re perfect or fixed! He loves us the way we are so we should love our students as they are! I love what your daughter said, “why do people put me in boxes, why can’t I be in all of them!” That is such a powerful statement! Thanks for sharing!

I think we tend to lump kids together into groups based on attributes rather than seeing them all as individuals and lulling out each strength and building on that! We are all different and we all bring uniqueness to the table! I like what the authors daughter said, “why do they try to put me in a box, why can’t I be in all of them!” Very powerful statement!

Kyle, I think sometimes we forget that about ourselves as well. All we want is to be known and to be loved. I think if we remember to apply that to our students it is huge! Thanks for seeking to know each student for who they are and inspiring your team to do the same.

I think students today want more than anything is to be seen. Some of that comes out in an unhealthy way at times, but at the core, is a deep desire to be known and loved. I have been seriously asking myself and my staff to look and see our students and to ask if anything we do hinders our ability to do that.

The key to me is that every student, whether a core student or a fringe student is seen and loved.
