I appreciate your maturity on this, Bobby. I know that what you’re sharing is the ideal response – and as you pointed out, you’ve been at the same church for a long time. Perhaps that’s what can really make a difference – tenure can trump the way this plays out. It sounds like you’re grounded in this… has it changed you in any negative way, though?

I 100% believe that as long as they are at another bible-believing church or group, that is what is important. As a youth pastor, you never want to see a kid(s) go somewhere else, but as a member of God’s family, I just want them to have a relationship with Christ. Churches shouldn’t be in competition with each other for people, after all, we are working towards the same goal…growing God’s family by telling and teaching the Good News…

I have experienced what you are talking about many times. I used to have those very thoughts and feelings you describe. I learned that my pitty or jealousy was hurting my time with God. So I took an approach that other youth ministers didn’t quite understand or agree with. It is as long as you’re going somewhere, I can live with that. I do however keep up with those people to make sure they are involved somewhere and not just leaving church all together. I still don’t like it but I can live with it without it controlling me.
