When possible, I use 7 tech touches for marketing events. If promotion is not a normal part of your event process dive in using a few of these. Don’t feel like you have to use them all, if you get overwhelmed you may abandon the process.
1. TIMELY “FROM THE TEACHER” PROMOTION
Mention your upcoming series or event from the stage, not just in announcements but in your opening. You can say something like, “In 2 weeks we start a new series called “SERIES TITLE” and I think this will be a great series for a friend dealing with “X” but tonight we are diving into…”
2. TIMELY “FROM YOUR LEADERS” PROMOTION
In their one-on-one conversations, in text messages, and at small groups have your leaders promo events and series. Just ask them to be positive and encouraging when they deliver the “ask/invite” to a student or their group. This “ask/invite” might not be on their radar, ask them to make this a habit and periodically remind them. Leverage your leaders and their relationships.
3. VIDEO PROMO
If you have the tools or you know a student who has the tools consider creating a 30-90 second promo video.
4. INVITATION CARDS
If you do not have access to a graphic designer check out Graphic River, they sell cool print templates. All you need is Photoshop and a little know-how (for a small fee they will make the edits for you). Also, consider purchasing a Sermon Series Bundle like “Connect” from Simply Youth Ministry. Many series like “Connect” include “Promotional ecards, postcards, posters, and desktop backgrounds.” These are 100% reproducible for your ministry.
5. BANNERS/TVs AS STUDENTS LEAVE
Have posters and banners in students walk paths or have slides scrolling on TVs in prominent locations as students leave.
6. MAIN INFORMATION TO THEIR HOMES
This gives our students a tool to invite. But more importantly, a warm invite from a friend is better received that a random, cold invitation mailed to the homes of people who do not know you. Equipping students is key.
7. SOCIAL MEDIA
Post series taglines, event catch phrases, and graphics to your instagram, twitter, facebook, etc. And ask your leaders and students to share.
We have not cornered the market on marketing ideas. What are you doing that did not make our list?
